My buddy in Denver swears by using 2x6s for all his deck framing now, not just the joists
We were talking about a deck rebuild I'm planning, and he said he's been using 2x6s for the beams and posts too, not just the standard 4x4s. He claims it's cheaper and just as strong if you space them right, which goes against everything I learned. Has anyone else tried this or is it cutting too many corners?

Check your local building code before you trust a buddy's advice.

Exactly, the "trust a buddy's advice" thing is a huge problem. People take shortcuts on stuff that really matters because their friend said it was fine. I see it with car repairs and home wiring too. It's wild how we'll get a second opinion from a doctor but just take a pal's word on something that could burn our house down. That local code exists for a reason, it's not just red tape.
