Found out my 1970s ranch has no studs behind the kitchen wall, just drywall glued to brick
I was hanging a new cabinet last month and my drill went straight through into nothing. Pulled off a section of drywall and there it was, the wall is just furring strips nailed to the brick with no real studs anywhere. A guy at the lumber yard in Greeley said this was common in tract homes built around here in 1972 because it was cheaper than framing. So my $40 cabinet is now a $300 project involving anchors and a whole lot of swearing. Has anyone else run into this in older brick ranches, and what did you use to hang anything heavy?
