That $130 monitor arm I bought fought my desk for an hour
Picked up a fancy gas spring arm thinking it'd clamp onto my 2 inch desktop no problem, but the base just wouldn't sit flat with the cable tray I built underneath. After stripping one bolt and denting the frame, I gave up and used a $12 wall mount I had in a drawer, works fine now. Anyone else bought a premium part that turned out to be overkill for their cheap setup?
Stripped a bolt on it? Man, that's rough. Those gas spring arms are supposed to be built like tanks, but I guess the desk wins sometimes. I had a similar thing with a monitor mount that had all these little plastic clips for cable management, and they just snapped off the moment I touched them. Ended up zip tying everything to the back of my shelf, which looks terrible but works. At least your wall mount saved the day, beats having a dented desk and a useless paperweight.
