Guy at the hardware store looked at my zip tied cables and just shook his head
I was at the Ace on 5th last Saturday grabbing more zip ties when the older guy behind the counter asked what they were for, and I told him about the rats nest behind my desk. He said "son, zip ties are for things you never want to touch again" and pointed me to a roll of velcro strap for $7. Took me about 20 minutes to swap it all out when I got home, and now when I need to move my monitor arm or add a usb hub I can just peel and rewrap instead of cutting everything off. The velcro also lets me bundle cables together so they hang cleaner off the back of the desk, no more sagging loops snagging my chair. Wish I had done this 2 builds ago instead of fighting with plastic every time. Has anyone else switched to velcro, and do the cheap dollar store rolls hold up or should I stick with the brand name stuff?
