Tried the $3 coolant flush trick from a forum and my temp gauge went up, not down
Did the whole drain and refill on my 2008 Civic in the driveway in about 40 minutes, but two days later the gauge started creeping past halfway, so now I'm wondering if I just pushed a bubble into the heater core and whether anyone else has had a home flush make things worse instead of better.
40 minutes on an 08 Civic means the thermostat housing and bleeder bolt are right there, but the trick most folks miss is squeezing the upper radiator hose while it idles with the cap off. You gotta burp it like a baby, keep squeezing till no more bubbles pop out and the heat blows hot at idle. Also park it nose up on a slope or ramps, that bubble loves hiding in the heater core.
