Stop buying fancy router bits before you fix your feed rate
I was burning every edge on hard maple and blaming my cheap bits, so I dropped $60 on a Whiteside set and still got scorch marks on the first pass. Turns out my feed rate was way too slow and I was letting the bit sit in one spot, which is what actually burns the wood. Slowed my RPM to about 16,000 and pushed the stock through faster and the cuts came out clean with the bits I already had. Anyone else figure this out the hard way, or is it just me who bought tools before fixing technique?
Man, I did the exact same thing, dropped good money on bits before realizing I was the problem. Slow feed and too much time in one spot will scorch anything, no bit can save that.
