Showerthought: the lumber aisle at my local yard swapped out its whole hand-pick rack and I barely noticed
Stopped by the same yard in Springfield I've used since about 2015 and the 2x4 rack is totally different. Back then you dug through a pile and pulled out the straight ones yourself, and half the boards were twisted like a pretzel. Now they've got a rack where you pull from the end and the guys actually cull the junk before it hits the floor. I asked the counter guy and he said they started doing it around 2021 because too many people were complaining. Honestly my waste pile is way smaller now, maybe one bad board per bundle instead of three or four. Has anyone else seen a yard near them switch to pre-sorted stacks, or is this just a local thing?
