Remember when you had to buy a whole new chain tool just for that one stuck pin?

Back in 2010, I was trying to shorten a chain on my old mountain bike and the pin got stuck halfway out. I almost gave up and bought a new tool. Then my uncle, who used to race, told me to put the chain in a bench vise and tap the pin with a small punch and a hammer. It popped right out and I saved like 30 bucks. I still use that trick today when my main tool acts up. Anyone got other old-school fixes for modern chain problems?

That bench vise trick is solid. Just be careful not to mushroom the pin end with the hammer. Makes it way harder to push back through. A drop of chain lube on the pin before you start tapping helps a ton too.

Man, that feeling when the pin jams is the worst. You're just sitting there, putting all your weight on the tool and nothing's moving. Feels like the whole project is about to go sideways. I've definitely been in that spot more times than I can count. It's such a relief when a simple trick like the vise actually works.
