My co-op guy convinced me to quit greasing my chain with motor oil, and he was right
For two years I used whatever was in the shop, including a jug of 10W-30, and my drivetrain was a gritty mess by every 200 miles. The mechanic at the Charlotte bike co-op said the detergent in motor oil pulls grit into the pins instead of shedding it, and after switching to a $9 bottle of dry lube my chain stays clean way longer on gravel. It sounds obvious now but nobody told me that when I started riding. What cheap stuff do you all swear by for keeping a chain alive through wet winters?
