My friend swore by lemon dish soap so I gave it a shot, big mistake

So my buddy Mark kept telling me that lemon scented Dawn was the only way to go because it cuts grease better and smells fresher. I usually stick with the free and clear stuff since my skin is pretty sensitive but I figured why not try it out. Within two days my hands were cracked and bleeding around my knuckles and the smell actually started making me sick after a while. I thought maybe it was just me so I let my roommate use it for a week and she said the same thing about her hands drying out. Meanwhile the dollar store brand I normally use has never given me any trouble at all. Has anyone else had a bad reaction to those citrus heavy dish soaps?

Yo have you tried switching to one of those foaming hand soaps instead of the dish soap altogether? I had the same issue with my hands cracking from citrus dish soap and I started using a plain castile soap for hand washing and it helped a ton. Also rubbing a little coconut oil on my hands before bed stopped the cracking pretty quick.

My buddy swore by the lemon stuff too and I read somewhere that citrus oils are actually pretty harsh on your skin, so it makes sense your hands got all cracked. That cheap dollar store soap probably has way less fragrance and more glycerin or something gentle. I can't stand when people act like expensive brand soaps are automatically better. Have you tried putting a little hand cream on after you wash to see if that helps with the dryness at all?
