Warning: exported my first month of daily sketches as PNGs and lost all my layer data
Found this out the hard way at 2am in my apartment in Austin when a client asked for one small edit to a piece from October. I'd been saving every finished sketch as a flat PNG for 30 days straight, so I had to redraw the whole thing from scratch. Anyone else keep a layered master file around, or do you just eat the redraw when a revision comes in?
Saw a thread on r/learnart where someone said they keep every master file in a folder called "layered graveyard" and only flatten a copy for posting. That stuck with me because it's such a simple fix. You just save the PNG for the client preview and keep the working file with all your layers safe somewhere else. Losing a whole redraw over one tiny edit is rough, sorry that happened at 2am.
