Spent 40 hours shading a single apple last month and it hit me why so much digital art feels flat
I was zoomed in at 600% obsessing over every bounce light on this one apple for a still life study, when I stepped back and saw the whole piece read perfectly at 25% zoom. What I keep seeing in showcase threads is people polishing a face to death while the background, hands, and edges stay mushy, so the eye has nowhere to rest and the whole image feels like a sticker on cardboard. Do you block in your big shapes and values first or jump straight to detail like I used to?
