High res versus stylized: which actually gets more clicks for you?

I uploaded two versions of the same character portrait last week. One was super detailed with skin pores and fabric textures. The other was a simpler cel-shaded style with bold outlines. The stylized one got 5 times the views and way more comments on ArtStation. Now I'm wondering if people just scroll past realistic stuff because it feels too familiar. Has anyone else noticed a big difference between these two approaches for engagement?

Oh man, "feels too familiar" really hit home for me. I had basically the same thing happen with a character I did last month - I spent forever on this gritty, hyperrealistic portrait with every pore and stray hair visible, and it barely got noticed. Then I threw together a quick flat-color piece with chunky black outlines for fun and it got shared like crazy on Twitter. It's wild how much people seem to want that simpler, more stylized look right now. Maybe the realistic stuff just blends together in the feed since so many people are doing it.

It really stings when the effortless one gets all the love while the painstaking work sits there.
