A guy in Tulsa showed me his #2 Phillips with a rounded tip and I've been checking mine ever since
I was at a truck stop outside Tulsa back in March, grabbing coffee before a long haul job, and a lube tech named Marcus asked to borrow a screwdriver to pop a battery cover off. I handed him my old Stanley and he looked at the tip for a second, then said "man, yours is about gone, that thing's gonna strip every pan head you touch." I kind of blew him off because it still felt fine in my hand, but he pulled out his own and held them side by side and the difference was night and day. Mine had that rounded over look where it just cams out of the slot, his still had sharp square edges that grabbed. Next week I used mine on a rack boot clamp and rounded it out so bad I had to drill the bolt, cost me almost 3 hours on a job that should've taken 20 minutes. Now I run a fingernail across every bit tip in my box once a month and toss the ones that skate. Anyone else have a cheap fix for bringing a tired tip back, or do you just replace them?
