The bus stop near my flat has no bench, and I finally figured out why that bugs me so much
I stood at the stop on Elm Street for 25 minutes last Tuesday with a bag of groceries digging into my arm, and it hit me that the shelter there is just a glass box with no seat. When I looked closer at the other stops around my neighborhood, I saw the same thing, one bench for every four stops, all of them bolted down by the council. A driver told me they removed the seats on purpose because people were sleeping on them, but now half my neighbors wait at the corner shop instead and miss the bus when it comes early. It matters because a stop is not just a pole with a sign, it is a place where people actually stand and wait, and we keep designing that part like an afterthought. Has anyone here seen a stop in their area that actually works well for waiting?
