Pro tip: that free PDF compressor site I used infected my whole network

Last Tuesday I downloaded a free PDF tool from a random site to shrink a set of blueprints for a client bid and within 2 hours my office PC was mining crypto so hard the fan sounded like a lawnmower, has anyone else had a work machine get taken down by a sketchy online converter?

Man that "lawnmower" line hit home, I read a report last month that said over 60% of free file converter sites are actually just mining malware fronts. It's crazy how fast those crypto miners can wreck a machine, your poor office PC never saw it coming. Hope you got that client bid backed up somewhere safe.

Oh wow, that stat is even scarier than I thought! I've been telling people for years to stick with open source desktop converters instead of those sketchy web ones. Your client bid should be fine as long as you had it saved locally too, cause cloud backups can get corrupted when malware starts messing with file associations.
