Dropped $60 on a prompt journal that told me to write about my feelings
Last month I bought this "300 writing prompts" book off Etsy for $60 because the listing showed all these cool sci-fi and horror starters. When it showed up, at least 200 of the prompts were stuff like "write about a time you felt sad" or "describe your safe place." I flipped through it twice looking for one prompt about a haunted lighthouse and found nothing. For the same money I could have grabbed 20 used short story collections at the library sale in Dayton and swiped their first lines instead. What's the worst prompt collection you ever bought, and did you find a better free source?

Did you check if the seller had any other listings with the actual sci-fi stuff? I used to figure these Etsy prompt books were all pretty much the same, just cheap lists slapped together with a nice cover. Then my sister got me one at a yard sale for two bucks and it was honestly better than stuff I've paid real money for, so now I dig through the used bin before I ever hit buy. The free stuff is everywhere if you look, Reddit has whole threads of horror and sci-fi starters people just give away, and old magazines at the library sale work too. Sixty bucks for "write about a time you felt sad" would've had me mailing that thing back.
