Flipped on nylon vs wire rope slings after a site mishap

Ran a job in Tulsa last Thursday where a wire rope sling scored a load beam, and the safety guy made me swap to nylon on the spot. I always thought wire was tougher, but seeing how nylon absorbed the vibration and grabbed better on the uneven pick convinced me otherwise. Anyone else switch sling types after a close call like that?
