Can we talk about how building 100 percent friendship in Stardew is not the real goal

Everyone says max out every villager heart but I burned 40 hours in one save grinding gifts and it made the game feel like a job, so I deleted it and started over just growing parsnips. The game got fun again when I let some hearts stay gray instead of chasing blue ribbons. Is anyone else out there ignoring the friendship board completely, or am I the only one playing it wrong?
