Realized I was backcombing wrong for like 6 years, a client finally said something

I always teased the crown area with a fine tooth comb, small quick strokes. It held okay but looked kinda flat, I figured that was just how my updos came out. Then last Tuesday a bride said "you know, you can get way more volume if you backcomb in sections, not one big swipe." I did it her way, three separate passes per section, and the volume difference was huge. I've been doing it the lazy way forever. Has anyone else had a client casually drop a tip that totally flipped their technique?
