Why do people act like the moon landing had to be faked with 1969 tech when we filmed the whole thing on a sound stage in Burbank
My uncle worked at a Lockheed plant in Palmdale in the 60s and he always said the capsule they showed on TV was a mock up. If they had real hardware that worked, why did they need a fake one for the press?

Why would a company waste money building two of everything when one mock up does the job? My dad did PR work for an aerospace contractor back then and he said the same thing, the press needed something to look at and poke around, so they built a shell for the cameras. The real flight hardware was either at the Cape or already packed and gone, plus it was stuffed with stuff nobody wanted some reporter's greasy hands on. A mock up isn't a cover up, it's just how these places handled tours and photo ops. Same reason car makers show a concept car that doesn't run. Your uncle wasn't lying, he just saw the display model and drew the wrong conclusion.
