Last Tuesday in the checkout line at the Piggly Wiggly, this older lady tells the cashier she always plants her tomatoes after the first full moon in April, no exceptions. I laughed at first, but then I got home and checked her claim against the last 10 years of frost data for my county, and it lines up way too well to be luck. It made me wonder how much folk wisdom is actually coded knowledge that got stripped of its reasoning over time, like farmers knew something before satellites existed. Has anyone else had a random stranger drop a piece of 'superstition' that held up better than the official forecast?

The first full moon thing is close, but the real trick is soil temps staying above 50 degrees at night, which the moon phase just happens to line up with most years. It's less magic and more of a rough calendar that works until it doesn't.
