Showerthought: My grandpa's advice about never trusting a weather report from a local news station that used the same radar for 30 years

My grandpa, a retired farmer from Iowa, told me back in 2018 that the local news station's weather was always wrong because they used the same radar that had been in place since the 90s. Last spring I tracked a storm using three different apps and the station still showed it south of town while it dumped hail right over my garden. Why would they keep using old equipment if it's causing people to miss real warnings?
