My laser level drifted 4 inches after a 90 minute job

Installed kitchen cabinets for a client in Phoenix last month, checked everything with my old bubble level, looked perfect. Then battery died on the laser level, swapped it, and the line moved 4 inches off. The factory skew drifted over time, I never recalibrated it after dropping it from a ladder back in March. Is recalibration actually something people do on a schedule, or am I the only one who just trusts the tool until it lies to them?
