Question about using a magnesium float vs a Fresno on a 12x20 slab in Tucson
I had to pick between my old magnesium float and a Fresno trowel on a 12 by 20 slab out in Tucson last weekend, and I went with the Fresno because the mix was a bit wet. It worked out, but I ended up chasing a few low spots near the edges that the mag would have caught earlier. Curious if anyone else switches back and forth depending on the mix, or if you just stick with one and deal with it.
That 12x20 in Tucson heat is gonna crust on you fast no matter what you grab, so switching based on the mix makes total sense. On wetter pours I'll float it first just to knock down the highs and get a flat plane, then run the Fresno after it sets up a bit, which saves you from chasing those edge dips later. Sticking to one tool just means you're doing the other one's job with the wrong thing, and the edges always pay for it.
