One Tuesday in March I fixed 6 machines before lunch and felt like a wizard, then the afternoon humbled me
Last Tuesday was the strangest day I've had on the bench in a while. I cleared out a whole stack of tickets before noon, six units total, and five of them were simple stuff like a bad stick of RAM or a Windows update that had been hung for days. I had a Dell on the bench with a boot loop that turned out to be a dead CMOS battery of all things, two bucks of parts and it fired right up. Then after lunch I got cocky and jinxed myself, because a laptop I promised back by 3pm turned into a full teardown when the charging port looked fine but the board had a cracked solder joint I couldn't see until I had it under the scope. That one job ate my whole afternoon and I had to call the guy and tell him it'd be Thursday. Spent $18 on a replacement port I didn't even need once I found the real problem. I guess the lesson is to enjoy the easy wins but never count the hours before they're done. Curious if you folks plan your days loose on purpose or do you book tight and just eat the overtime when a job goes sideways?
