Old IT guy told me to quit using compressed air on fans

He said it spins them too fast and can damage the bearings. Blew out a couple old server fans after ignoring him for a month and sure enough they started grinding. Anyone else just use a soft brush now instead?

Yeah, "spins them too fast" is the key part. I used to think compressed air was harmless until I killed a few case fans the same way. The bearings just can't handle being spun at like 10k RPM when they're not designed for it. Now I just grab a soft brush and go slow. Way less drama and the fans actually last.
