Paying $40 for a parking app that was free in the old lot, warning others

So I moved downtown last month and the new garage only takes this one app. Fine, whatever, I pay the $40 for the month pass. Turns out the old city lot I used to use had a free app that did the exact same thing, I just never knew because it was auto renewing on my card. I got hit with $40 because I forgot to cancel it before my old pass expired. Total dumb tax is $40 and now I pay double every month if I don't remember to switch. Anyone else get blindsided by a paid app they didn't even need?

Check if the new app has a free tier hidden in the settings.
