My neighborhood watch meeting went sideways when I brought up the new crosswalk

Everyone loves the painted crosswalk on 5th because it forced cars to slow down, but I pointed out the paint faded after 4 months and now it's worse than before since drivers ignore it. We spent the whole meeting on landscaping instead of fixing the actual sightline problem that's been there since the dog park opened. I think we should have pushed for a raised bump or a flashing sign, not just a fresh coat of paint every season. Has anyone else dealt with a quick fix that made the community feel good but left the real hazard untouched?
