My LCS guy told me to skip the $80 slab and buy the $12 reader copy, and he was dead right about the 3 keys I was hunting

Your LCS guy gave you solid advice for reading copies, but slabs and raw books are two different things. A graded 9.8 key holds value way better than a beat up reader, so skipping the slab only makes sense if you plan to actually read the book or flip it fast. For a PC copy, yeah, save the cash and grab the $12 one every time.
