Am I the only one who rereads old issues just to catch the letter columns?
I was killing time at a laundromat on Clark St. last Saturday and pulled out a beat up copy of a 1987 X-Men issue I keep in my bag, and I ended up spending more time on the letters page than the actual story. Some guy named Dave from Ohio wrote in mad about a character dying, and the editor straight up answered him with a joke about it. It got me thinking about how fans used to have to wait months to argue about stuff, and now it all happens in like 5 minutes online. I feel like I learn more about what readers cared about back then from those old letters than from any wiki page. There's something about seeing people get heated in print that feels more real to me. Do any of you actually read the letter columns in older books, or do you skip straight to the story like I usually do? And what's the wildest reader letter you've come across?
