My first HTML page in 2003 vs the one I made last Tuesday
Back in 2003, I took a community college class in Tacoma and we wrote our first web pages in Notepad, saving them as .html and refreshing the browser manually. My page was just a maroon background, a dancing baby GIF, and the words "Hello World" in Comic Sans. Last Tuesday, I tried the same thing through an online editor and it auto-completed my tags, flagged a missing closing bracket, and even showed a little preview on the side. The whole thing took me maybe 90 seconds, but I kind of missed the feeling of getting it wrong and figuring it out myself. Does anyone still write plain HTML by hand just to keep the basics sharp, or is that a waste of time now?
