Just noticed a lot of new coders in my local group skip the basics of version control

I was helping at a beginner's workshop in Seattle last weekend and saw three people trying to share a project by emailing code files back and forth. It took me 45 minutes to explain why using Git, even just on one computer, saves so much headache. They had no idea they could track changes or go back to an old version. Has anyone else found a good way to teach Git without making it seem scary?

Honestly, how do people even keep track of all those email attachments?

I mean, I just save everything to one big folder and hope I can find it later. It's a mess honestly.
