Why does nobody talk about zeroing your indicator before a setup, I skipped it for 6 years
Six years of running a Haas VF2 in my shop near Dayton and I always zeroed my indicator off the chuck, never off the table. Last Wednesday a 0.015 difference on a bearing bore stacked up across four parts and scrapped 320 bucks of aluminum. An old timer named Ray watched me chase the error for two hours and just said, check your zero on the table first. Turns out my chuck had worn and was sitting high on one side. Ten seconds with a mag base on the table would have caught it before I cut anything. What do you guys zero off, table or fixture, and did it ever bite you?
