Vent: Crash that cost me $4k because I got lazy with offsets

Last Tuesday in the shop off I-35 in Round Rock, I ran a 3 jaw chuck right into a brand new tombstone setup. I trusted the previous operator's written tool lengths instead of touching off myself, and that mistake scrapped 12 aluminum parts and bent a $900 holder. Blueprint said tolerance was +/-.005 but I learned the hard way that checking your own numbers takes 5 minutes while replacing a spindle nose takes 2 days. Anyone else ever trust someone else's offsets and pay for it, or am I the only idiot who skips the basics when the boss is breathing down your neck?
