Spent 6 hours chasing a toolpath bug on a Haas VF-2 last Tuesday

I had a part that kept cutting .015 off on one corner no matter what I did in CAM. Turns out I had a leftover wear offset from the previous job that I forgot to clear out. Anyone else ever waste a whole shift on something that simple?

Oh man, that's a classic Haas trap. The wear offset page can be a sneaky one - cleared a whole gang of tools once, three hours down the drain. We started writing down all offsets on a dry erase board next to the machine. Simple fix but it saved our butts more than once. Usually it's the little stuff that gets you, not the complex CAM errors.

@the_andrew nailed it with the dry erase board idea, but I gotta push back a little on the "cleared a whole gang of tools" thing. On a Haas, clearing all wear offsets at once with that "ORIGIN" soft key actually resets them to zero, not clears them out. You end up with zeros in the offset table, which is perfectly fine, its the same as having nothing there. Those leftover values from the last job are exactly what got me last month on my VF-3, a .005 wear offset left over from a steel part that threw off a aluminum run by almost .01.
