Just realized my garage door hinge is loose and I want to CNC a new one
The hinge on my garage door is worn out. I have access to a CNC machine at work and plan to make a replacement. What grade of steel should I use for outdoor exposure?
Yeah, 304 stainless is the way to go for outside. I made some brackets last summer and went with 11 gauge, which has been plenty thick. Just make sure you deburr the edges real good so it doesn't catch on anything.
That's solid advice about the deburring. Don't forget to seal any drilled holes too, even with stainless. Moisture will find a way in and start rusting from the inside out if you don't. A little silicone sealant around the bolts takes care of it.
