My 1966 Mustang would not start in the Piggly Wiggly lot in Gulfport, so I tapped the solenoid with a wrench
I was 20 minutes from home in Gulfport when the starter just clicked and nothing happened, so I grabbed the 9/16 wrench from my trunk and tapped the solenoid like my granddad showed me, and she fired right up. Half the guys I know say that trick is fine as a get-home fix, but the other half swear it just masks a bad solenoid and you should replace it right then. Do you carry a spare solenoid or do you trust the tap to get you home?
