Watching my mom's cracked mug over 10 years and why it still sits on the shelf
My mom drank from the same white mug every morning, and about 10 years ago it got a hairline crack down the side from the dishwasher. Last month I noticed the crack had turned brown from all the coffee and tea that soaked into it, and the handle has a tiny chip from when she dropped it on the kitchen floor in 2016. She refuses to toss it because my dad gave it to her on their trip to Portland in 2011. Does anyone else have a mug that looks worse every year but you still reach for it first?
Honestly that mug sounds like a health hazard at this point. The crack soaking up old coffee for a decade is basically a petri dish, and a chip on the handle means you're one drop away from hot tea in your lap.
Memories are great but they live in your head, not in a cracked cup. Buy a new mug, toast your dad with it, and let that thing go.
