My grandma's cracked Fiestaware mug survived a move from Dayton to Seattle, but I'm scared to drink from it now
So this mug belonged to my grandma and it has this hairline crack running down the side that's been there since before I was born. When she passed, I packed it in a box of towels and drove it 2,300 miles from Dayton to Seattle because I couldn't trust the movers with it. It made it fine, not a single new chip, but now every time I pour hot coffee in it I just stare at that crack and wonder if today's the day it splits in half. My husband keeps saying to just retire it to the shelf and buy a new mug, but that feels like giving up on it, you know? I've been drinking my morning coffee out of it for 6 months now and nothing bad has happened, but I still hold it with two hands like it's a baby bird. Has anyone here kept using a cracked mug long term, or did you finally just let it go and put it on display somewhere? I really don't want to be the person who broke grandma's mug over a cup of Folgers.
