Blew $85 on a horse carriage ride in Charleston and we saw more from the sidewalk
My wife and I did one of those carriage tours in Charleston last month. Paid $85 for the two of us. The horse moved about four blocks in 45 minutes. We sat in traffic behind a food truck for most of it. The guide talked about himself more than the buildings. Here is the kicker, we walked the same streets the next morning for free and saw more. The houses off Meeting Street look better on foot anyway. If you want the history, grab a $3 pamphlet at the visitor center. Save the carriage money for a real dinner. Anyone got a better low cost way to see that part of town?

Gotta disagree on this one, the carriage thing is more about the vibe than the sights. My wife and I did one last spring and yeah it was slow, but hearing the stories while rolling through at that pace hit different than reading a pamphlet. Walking is great and all, but sometimes paying for the cheesy tourist thing is half the fun.
