Watch out for oven cleaner on old seasoning

My buddy used Easy-Off on his 30 year old griswold to strip it and left it on 10 minutes too long. The pitting showed up the next day after the first wash, two dime sized spots right in the middle. Has anyone else seen damage from letting that stuff sit past the label time?
