My old seam roller was junk compared to the weighted one I got last fall
I used to just use a cheap hand roller for all my seams. Then I did a job for a hotel in downtown Austin last October, 40 yards of commercial carpet. The seams kept lifting no matter how much I pressed. Finally borrowed my buddy's weighted seam roller with the wider head, cost him about $80. That thing set the seams flat on the first pass, no gaps or bumps. Has anyone else noticed a big difference with a heavier roller on high traffic commercial jobs?
Man, I feel this in my back and shoulders! I was so stubborn with my old lightweight roller, thought it was fine for years. Then I tried my buddy's weighted one on a hallway job and it was like night and day, the carpet just laid down and stayed there. I ended up borrowing his for a week until I broke down and ordered my own. My only regret is all the times I re-pressed seams by hand like a chump, kneeling there with my thumb like some kind of carpet caveman.
