The homeowner who asked me to shut off my nail gun

Last spring I was doing a trim job in a big house near the lake, and the guy who hired me kept hanging around watching. About an hour in, he said, "Can you turn that thing off for a second?" I thought he had a noise complaint, but he just wanted to hear the difference between the nail gun and a mallet. He said he grew up around his dad's hammer-and-nail work and never liked the sound of air tools. I showed him the pin nailer I use for small moldings, and he asked if I could do the whole living room with just that and a hammer. It took me an extra afternoon, but watching him smile every time I sank a nail with a punch was worth it. Do any of you ever get clients who ask for the old-school way, and how do you handle the extra time?
