Found a 1923 framing manual in my grandpa's garage in Fresno and the stud spacing rule caught me off guard
I was cleaning out boxes at my grandpa's place in Fresno and found a 1923 framing manual from a trade school he went to. The book says carpenters back then spaced studs at 16 inches on center because lath strips came in 48 inch lengths, not because of any strength math, and I always figured 16 was picked for load reasons. Did any of you old timers get taught the lath story or is that just what this one book claims?
