Am I the only one who went with the cheaper pine for the Halsey Street built-ins and regrets it
Client wanted painted built-ins in the hallway so I picked pine over poplar to save about $180 on the lumber order. Two of the shelf boards have already cupped and one face frame split at a knot when I shot a 16 gauge brad into it. I know pine is softer and I figured paint would hide the dents, but I'm sitting here filling cracks on a job that should be done. Any of you have a go-to budget wood that doesn't pull this stuff on you?
