The one interview trick I thought was total BS until I tried it

My old boss kept telling me to mirror the interviewer's body language. I thought it was some weird manipulation thing and ignored it for years. Then I had a rough interview at a place in Austin 6 months ago where I just naturally started doing it without thinking. The guy actually said I was easy to talk to and offered me the job the next day. Has anyone else had a simple trick like that actually work when you finally gave it a shot?

4 interviews I did that with and all 4 said I seemed fake and forced. One guy even called me out on it and it got awkward real fast.
