Honestly, I thought the 'dress for the job you want' advice was total nonsense until a client in Denver told me he hired me over another installer because I looked like I already ran my own business.
Ngl, I showed up to give a quote on a 1200 sq ft tile job in my usual stained t-shirt, but he said seeing me in clean work pants and a company polo made him trust I was organized enough to handle the project, so has anyone else had a simple clothes choice actually land them work?

Wait, is it weird that I kind of do the opposite? I work in an office and some days I'll dress way down, like in a hoodie, when I know I just need to focus on my own work and not get pulled into extra meetings. It sounds silly but it actually works, people leave me alone more. Maybe it's less about dressing for the job you want and more about dressing for the work you need to get done that day.

That's actually smart, @sanchez.mary. I know a few coders who do the same thing with hoodies on deep work days. Honestly it's a solid strategy if your office allows it.
