A guy at a job fair in Cleveland handed me his resume and asked me to fix it, I'm not even a recruiter
I was standing in line for a free coffee at the Cleveland Convention Center last Thursday and some dude handed me his resume thinking I worked the booth. It was 1 page, but the whole top listed his address, his birthday, and even his photo, which is a big no from what I've heard. I pointed that out and he had no idea, so now I'm wondering how many people are getting tossed just for stuff they never got taught. Anyone else run into this kind of thing at job fairs?
Wait, he put his birthday on there? Like the actual date he was born? That is wild to me. I get that some countries do the photo thing and maybe it's normal there, but birthday is just asking to get your identity stolen by anyone who picks that paper up. The worst part is nobody ever sits these people down and tells them the basics, they just print out a resume template from some old website and assume it's fine. I bet half the stack at any given job fair has stuff on it that gets tossed in two seconds flat. Dude probably walked away from that talk learning more than he did at the whole rest of the fair.
