Appreciation post: the 3 box tunnel took me 5 hours, not the 40 minutes I planned for
Everyone says a box tunnel is the easy starter project, and I used to agree. Not anymore. I tried it in my garage on a Saturday with 3 moving boxes from the U-Haul on 8th. Figured 40 minutes, tops. Five hours in, I was still fighting it.
The problem was the seams. Tape alone flexed every time my kid crawled through, so the tunnel sagged in the middle and kept pinching the sides inward. I tried overlapping the flaps first, which helped a little, but the real fix was cutting a triangle brace from a spare box and wedging it top and bottom. Roughly 12 inches long each. Took me maybe 20 minutes once I finally thought of it.
So no, I don't buy that tunnels are beginner level. Corner towers and simple walls are way more forgiving. Curious what brace shape you all use in longer spans, or do you just double up the cardboard and hope for the best?
